Your mouth matters: Oral health impacts your overall health

by Wellness Champion, Concordia Plans

Your mouth is more than just a smile – it’s a window into your overall health, with oral care playing a key role in your body’s well-being.

Did you know …

  • Regular dental check-ups help catch issues early, lower treatment costs and can reveal signs of conditions like heart and kidney disease.
  • Skipping dental care leads to 22% more ER and urgent care visits.
  • Cigna Dental Virtual Care is available 24/7 through Teledentix at myCigna.com. Get quick, five to 10-minute video consults with licensed dentists for urgent dental concerns. (For Cigna Dental members only.)
  • Need help with dental anxiety? Learn more here. You can also reach out to your EAP via Evernorth Confide for support.
  • Preventive dental exams are covered 100% with the Concordia Health Plan.

Here are some helpful tips for good oral hygiene:

  • Brush your teeth twice a day with a fluoride toothpaste that's approved by the American Dental Association.
  • Clean between teeth daily with floss or an interdental cleaner.
  • Replace your toothbrush every 3-4 months or sooner if the bristles are worn or frayed.
  • Wait at least 30 minutes after eating to brush your teeth, as acid on the teeth softens the enamel and brushing will cause more enamel loss.
