Your health, your life: What every woman needs to know right now

by Wellness Champions, Concordia Plan Services

“She dresses herself with strength and makes her arms strong.” – Proverbs 31:17

From the very beginning, God designed women with strength, compassion, wisdom and the ability to nurture life in countless ways. Yet womanhood is not a straight line — and it's certainly not one size fits all.

From the childbearing years to menopause and beyond, each stage brings its own mix of joys, challenges and changes — and many women feel unprepared when those transitions arrive. Symptoms can show up unexpectedly, information can feel hard to find, and it's not always clear when to seek care or what questions to ask.

Those changes affect more than just the body. They can influence mood, energy, confidence, sleep and day-to-day life — often during seasons when you're already caring for children, supporting aging parents or managing growing responsibilities at work and home. If that sounds familiar, it's okay to acknowledge that it can be a lot.

You deserve to feel informed, supported and cared for — at every stage.

The Three Stages of Menopause

Perimenopause
2–8 years before menopause; symptoms can include hormonal changes, irregular menstruation, and hot flashes
Menopause
The point in time 12 months after a woman’s last period
Postmenopause
Symptoms may ease; health changes include increased risk for osteoporosis and heart disease

What you might be noticing (and why it makes sense)

Health transitions — particularly during perimenopause and menopause — can bring changes that feel unexpected or unsettling. Hot flashes, changes in sleep, brain fog, mood shifts, irregular periods and fluctuations in energy or weight are commonly reported. Some women notice these changes gradually, while others feel like they arrive all at once.

What’s important to remember is that there is no “right” way to experience these changes. God’s creation is wonderfully diverse, and each woman’s body responds differently. Everyone’s experience is different, so it’s not fair to YOU to compare yourself to others. Understanding what’s happening in your body and knowing that support is available can help these transitions feel less overwhelming.

Practical ways to support your health — right where you are

Supporting your health doesn’t require perfection or major life changes. Small, realistic steps can help you feel more confident and in control.

Here are a few practical ideas:

Pay attention to your body. Tracking symptoms or changes can help you have more productive conversations with your healthcare provider.

Focus on sustainable habits. Balanced nutrition, regular movement and maintaining a healthy weight can support overall and heart health at every stage of life.

Prioritize emotional well-being. Mental health is an important part of overall health. Seeking support through counseling and staying connected to supportive people can help during times of transition.

You have 24/7 access to support through Evernorth Confide, your enhanced Employee Assistance Program, as well as eight free sessions per topic (from family to financial issues to substance abuse, emotional health and stress), per year.

Use available resources. Preventive care, health screenings, mental health support and healthcare navigation services are there to help guide you.

Ask questions. If something doesn’t feel right, speaking up can lead to clarity, reassurance and options that fit your needs.

Find the right healthcare provider. You deserve a doctor who truly listens. If you're not feeling heard, it's completely okay — and important — to seek out a provider who specializes in what you're going through.
