‘Women's Health Week’ May 11-17: Prioritize YOUR physical and mental health

by Wellness Champion, Concordia Plans

Always on the go – organizing, cooking, running errands, helping others. Sound familiar? We are truly living Proverbs 31:27: “She looks well to the ways of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness.”

For many women, especially after they have kids, “me time” feels out of reach. Physical and mental wellness slip down the priority list. Did you know that 44% of women in the U.S. are managing an ongoing health condition? (Source: KFF Women’s Health Survey 2020. KFF.org. April 2021.)

It’s time that we find a healthy balance of caring for others and ourselves – at all stages of womanhood. As we know, every stage has its own challenges. But for every “Now what?” you ask in your 20s, 30s, 40s and 50s & beyond, there are guidelines and solutions to help you along your physical and mental wellness journeys.

She dresses herself with strength and makes her arms strong. – Proverbs 31:17

Support for maternal mental health

While on the topic of mental health, I want to address maternal mental health. This applies to your overall emotional, social and mental well-being during pregnancy or postpartum. Depression and anxiety during or after pregnancy are common – and they’re treatable. About one in eight people experience postpartum depression, so know that you’re not alone.

You have 24/7 access to clinical support through Evernorth Confide, your enhanced Employee Assistance Program.

Also, you can tap into national maternal mental health support.

So, no matter what stage of womanhood you’re in or where you’re at in life – young adult, new parent, empty nester, widowed – put YOUR physical and mental health at the TOP of your to-do list.
