Some current and former members of the Concordia Health Plan have received a postcard or email communication regarding a Blue Cross Blue Shield Association class action lawsuit. The association, of which our own provider Blue Cross Blue Shield of Minnesota is a member, has agreed to a settlement.
The lawsuit alleged that for more than a decade the Blue Cross Blue Shield entities violated antitrust laws by dividing the market to avoid competing with each other, resulting in higher prices. This resulted in a portion of the settlement providing monetary relief, with a claim deadline of November 5, 2021. If a ministry or member would like to make a claim, the claim must be filed by this deadline per the communication received from the claims administrator. However, no action is required of ministries or members if they choose not to file a claim.
