Support Available in Times of Tragedy

We at Concordia Plan Services are deeply saddened by the tragic act of violence that occurred on the campus of Virginia Tech. We extend our sincere condolences to those whose lives were impacted by this terrible event, and ask that God would support them during their time of sorrow with His comfort and peace. We pray also for hope and healing as they face the future.

During times of tragedy and heightened anxiety, remember that counseling services and online resources are available through the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) administered by CIGNA Behavioral Health. From offering a co-worker support - to finding the right words to explain this situation to a child, assistance is available.

Board Approves Changes in Concordia Plans

In their December 2006 meeting, the Board of Managers approved the following changes in the Concordia Health Plan, Concordia Retirement Plan, and Concordia Disability and Survivor Plan effective January 1, 2007:

  • Enrollment forms for new or reenrolled workers must be received by Concordia Plan Services within 60 days of full-time employment instead of the prior 90 days. If the enrollment form is received after 60 days:
    • Concordia Health Plan – enrollment will be available only during the next open enrollment period (i.e., the following January 1) unless the worker meets the special enrollment requirements of the Plan.
    • Concordia Retirement Plan – enrollment will be effective retroactive to the first day of the month following full-time employment, and retroactive contributions, plus interest, will be due from the employer.
    • Concordia Disability and Survivor Plan – enrollment will be effective the first day of the month following receipt of the enrollment form by Concordia Plan Services. No retroactive enrollment or retroactive benefits will be provided.
  • A member’s application for enrollment of new dependents (spouse and/or child) must be received by Concordia Plan Services within 30 days after acquiring the dependent (e.g., marriage, birth, adoption, etc.) instead of the prior 90 days. If more than 30 days elapses:
    • Concordia Health Plan – enrollment will be available only during the next open enrollment period (i.e., the following January 1) unless the dependent meets the special enrollment requirements of the Plan.
    • Concordia Disability and Survivor Plan – the dependent’s coverage will be effective the first day of the month following receipt of the application by Concordia Plan Services. No retroactive enrollment or retroactive benefits will be provided.
  • In the Concordia Health Plan, the requirements for covering extended care facility charges are being changed to eliminate the requirement of a hospital confinement immediately prior to admission into an extended care facility. Also, eligible charges will also no longer be limited to 50% of the most common semi-private room rate of the last hospital in which the person was confined, and coverage is limited to 100 days per calendar year (not per confinement).
  • In the Concordia Health Plan, a worker who is retiring prior to age 65 will be permitted to select a lower plan coverage option (i.e., higher deductible option) effective the first day of the month following retirement rather than having to wait until the end of the year to change options.

New Vision Benefits

Effective January 1, 2007, vision benefits will be added to all plan coverage options of the Concordia Health Plan (CHP) for all active workers and enrolled dependents enrolled in the CHP. The new vision benefits will be added without additional monthly fees.

The vision benefits will be provided through Vision Service Plan (VSP). VSP is easy and simple to use with no ID cards and no claim forms. VSP offers the most extensive national network of independent eye care doctors. All CHP members will be sent information regarding their new vision benefits by year-end.
