Exercises for Living

Ten Ways to Help You Stay “Fit”
 

Exercise Your Spirit

  • Read devotions at breakfast
  • Pray together at mealtimes
  • Spend time in Bible study (personal, couple, family, church family)
  • Listen to Christian music
  • Make time everyday for peace and quiet or in quiet meditation
  • Pray
 

Exercise Your Relationships

  • Spend time with your family (designate a “family night” to play a game, go bowling, explore a new area)
  • Schedule date nights with your spouse – go out or get together with friends once a month
  • Get to know your neighbors
 

Exercise Your Body

  • Try to exercise 20-30 minutes a day (at least 10 minutes a time.)
  • Walk hallways before going home
  • Use stairs instead of elevators/escalators
  • Walk up escalators at mall
  • Walk to a local restaurant to eat
 

Exercise Your Mind

  • Complete word puzzles
  • Play games
  • Participate in area trivia nights
  • Read a variety of print:
    • newspapers
    • books
    • magazines
    • cereal boxes
 

Exercise Your Will Power

  • Learn to say “No” if over-stretched
  • Examine your daily schedule and find ways to make more efficient
  • Set reachable goals and then work toward them
  • Say no to the extra helpings
  • Eat half, box the rest
 

Exercise Your Heart

  • Love
  • Laugh
  • Enjoy God’s creation (hike, canoe, bike, fish)
  • Help others
  • Schedule time for play
  • Find ways throughout your day to have fun
 

Exercise Your Environment

  • Simplify your life (Rid yourself of “high-maintenance” items)
  • Get organized - save time
  • Allow ample time to adjust to big changes before taking on another
 

Exercise Your Sensibility

  • Don’t eat, drink or do anything else in excess
  • Wear a seatbelt at all times
  • Don’t drive after drinking or when tired
  • Wear a helmet while biking/skating
  • Don’t take unnecessary risks
 

Exercise Your Doctor

  • Get regular checkups (dentist, doctor)
  • Get all questions answered
  • Learn to do self-exams
 

Exercise Your Pillow

  • Try to be consistent with sleeping/waking times – even on weekends
  • Get enough sleep! (Too little sleep can lead to accidents, stress, work, and family problems)
