“Disability” means that for a period of time of 14 days or more a member is unable to perform essential duties of his or her occupation due to an injury or illness. During the first two years, the member must be unable to earn at least 80% of prior earnings, and after the first two years of disability, unable to engage in gainful employment. Pregnancy is eligible for consideration as a disabling condition.
Disability benefits may be reduced by a percentage of any compensation earned by the member while disabled. After six months of disability, benefits may be reduced by any Social Security benefits (including any dependent benefits), any other state-mandated/group plan benefits, and compensation from the employer.
